Mt. Lemmon: Survivor
The Aspen Fire started on June 17 and burned for about a month. It was a horrible thing to watch from below. We could see a lot of smoke in the daytime, but in early July the fire fronts were getting very close and flames were quite visible from town. One night I drove up into the foothills and found a traffic jam of gawkers. It wasn't until the middle of September that I made it up the mountain. I was pleasantly surprised at how green things were. Seems the fire raced through so quickly that in many areas there was relatively little damage.
